Berlin packing list for families

Berlin with kids means big distances, deep history, and surprisingly good lake days in summer. Packing for changeable weather and lots of transit keeps the whole family comfortable.

Kristina's notes on Berlin

  1. Berlin is spread out, so I plan each day around one neighborhood and use the U-Bahn and S-Bahn between them. Stations vary in elevator access, so a light stroller that folds quickly is easier than a big one.
  2. The history here is heavy, from the Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse to the Holocaust Memorial. I prepare older kids ahead of time and balance those visits with the Natural History Museum, the zoo, or a playground.
  3. Summer is the best season for families. When it gets warm, Berliners head to the lakes, and a swim day at Wannsee or Schlachtensee is a fun break from sightseeing, so I pack swimsuits even for a city trip.
