Galápagos packing list for families

A Galápagos trip is part boat, part beach, and part nature walk, often all before lunch. Packing well comes down to quick-dry layers, the right shoes for wet landings, and gear that keeps kids comfortable in the water.

Kristina's notes on Galápagos Islands

  1. Pick your ship before your dates. Many expedition yachts set minimum ages or run dedicated family departures, and the right group of kids on board makes the whole week.
  2. Wet landings mean stepping off a panga into knee-deep surf, so I pack water shoes and quick-dry shorts for everyone and keep sneakers in a dry bag for the trail.
  3. Visitors are asked to stay about six feet from the wildlife, and the animals do not know that rule. Talk to kids ahead of time about giving sea lions their space, even when a pup comes right up to them.
