Madrid is late dinners, big museums, and leafy parks, with medieval Toledo just a short train ride away. Packing for heat, hills, and long days helps everyone keep pace with the Spanish schedule.

Kristina's notes on Madrid & Toledo
- Madrid runs late. Lunch is around 2 and dinner often starts at 9, so I lean into an afternoon rest at the hotel and pack easy snacks to bridge the gap for younger kids.
- Toledo is an easy day trip on the fast train, but the old town sits on a hill with steep, narrow cobblestone streets. Comfortable shoes matter, and a carrier is easier than a stroller there.
- July and August are very hot, with afternoons in the 90s. If you travel then, I plan museums like the Prado for midday and save the Retiro Park rowboats for the morning or evening.
