Maldives packing list for families

The Maldives is mostly about water, which makes packing simpler than it looks, but seaplane luggage limits and strong equatorial sun change what earns a spot in the bag. Here is what I pack for families, plus when to go for calm seas and manta rays.

Kristina's notes on Maldives

  1. Seaplanes fly only in daylight, so a late international arrival can mean a night in Malé before your transfer. I plan flights around that first.
  2. Seaplanes also have tighter luggage limits than your international flight. Soft bags and one shared toiletry kit make the transfer much easier.
  3. With little ones, ask about the house reef and villa safety before you book. Some overwater villas have open decks and ladders straight into deep water, and a beach villa can be the calmer choice.
