Naples and Capri packing list for families

A Naples and Capri trip swings from dusty ruins at Pompeii to polished island evenings and salty boat days. Packing for all three, without overpacking for the ferry, is the trick.

Kristina's notes on Naples & Capri

  1. Pompeii has almost no shade and uneven stone streets. Go first thing in the morning with hats, refillable water bottles, and sturdy shoes, and plan two to three hours, which is plenty for most kids.
  2. On Capri, a private boat around the island is my favorite family day. The Blue Grotto depends on the sea, and entry stops when the swell picks up, so treat it as a bonus rather than the plan.
  3. Ferries and hydrofoils to Capri can be bumpy, and the port gets crowded. I pack motion sickness remedies, travel light, and use the porter service so we are not dragging bags up to the Piazzetta.
