Naples and Sanibel packing list for families

Southwest Florida is calm water, soft sand, and beaches covered in shells, which makes it one of the easiest beach trips with young kids. The right few extras turn a nice week into the one they talk about all year.

Kristina's notes on Naples & Sanibel, Florida

  1. Shelling is the main event on Sanibel, and the best finds come at low tide and after a winter cold front. Pack a mesh bag per child and check the tide chart each morning.
  2. Taking live shells is not allowed on Sanibel, so teach kids to check that a shell is empty before it goes in the bag.
  3. Do the stingray shuffle when wading in the Gulf. Sliding your feet through the sand warns stingrays you are coming, and it is a fun game for kids.
