Panama packing list for families

Panama packs a modern city, rainforest, and island hopping into one trip, all in tropical heat. Light clothes, rain protection, and boat-day gear cover nearly everything.

Kristina's notes on Panama

  1. Panama uses the US dollar, which makes things easy with kids. Bring small bills for tips, snacks, and island fees, since change can be hard to come by outside the city.
  2. Kids love watching ships pass through the canal locks. I plan a visit for a time when ships are scheduled to transit so they see the water levels change, not just an empty lock.
  3. The boat ride out to the San Blas Islands can be choppy, and island stays are simple. Pack dry bags, motion sickness help, and passports, since you will need them on the way in.
