Prague and Budapest packing list for families

Prague and Budapest pair fairy-tale old towns with thermal baths, cold winters, and plenty of cobblestones. Here is my family packing list for both cities, plus what each month brings.

Kristina's notes on Prague & Budapest

  1. Getting between Prague and Budapest takes most of a day by train or car. I plan it as a travel day with snacks and downloads, not a sightseeing day.
  2. Pack flip-flops and a swimsuit for Budapest's thermal baths. Check age rules before you go, since some pools are not recommended for very young children.
  3. Both cities have two currencies to deal with, and neither uses the euro. Cards work almost everywhere, but I carry a little local cash for markets and tips.
