San Sebastián and Basque Coast packing list for families

San Sebastián is a beach city, but it sits on the cool, green Atlantic rather than the sunny Mediterranean. Here is what our family packs for surf mornings, pintxos evenings and the odd rainy day.

Kristina's notes on San Sebastián & Basque Coast

  1. The Basque Coast is green for a reason. Rain can show up in any month, so I pack a light rain jacket even for an August beach trip.
  2. Pintxos bars are surprisingly great with kids, since everyone picks small bites off the counter. Go early in the evening, before the bars fill up and dinner hours run late.
  3. La Concha is calm and gentle for little swimmers, while Zurriola across the river is where the surf schools are. Splitting the day between them keeps everyone happy.
