Tallinn and Riga packing list for families

Tallinn and Riga mix fairy-tale old towns with breezy Baltic weather and very long summer days. Packing layers and a plan for bright bedtimes makes the trip easy with kids.

Kristina's notes on Tallinn & Riga

  1. Tallinn's old town is cobblestones and hills, with the upper town on Toompea up steep lanes. A carrier helps with little ones, and good shoes matter for everyone.
  2. Tallinn and Riga are about four to five hours apart by bus or car, with no fast train yet. I plan a full travel day, or a driver with stops at places like Pärnu's beach or Sigulda's castles.
  3. Summer days are very long, with light past 10 at night in June. I pack a sleep mask and travel blackout shades for kids, because bedtime is hard when it is still bright out.
