Venice packing list for families

Venice is a city of bridges, boats, and steps, so everything you bring has to be easy to carry. A few smart packing swaps make it one of the most magical places in Europe to see with kids.

Kristina's notes on Venice

  1. Venice has hundreds of stepped bridges, so leave the stroller home and bring a carrier for little ones. Kids who walk will love counting bridges.
  2. Pack light enough that every bag can be carried. You will haul luggage onto a water taxi or vaporetto and over bridges to your hotel, and backpacks beat rolling suitcases here.
  3. Day-trip crowds thin out after about 5 pm, which is my favorite time to wander with kids. If you visit in late fall or winter, acqua alta can flood low areas for a few hours, so pack waterproof boots.
