Cape Town packing list for families

Cape Town can be sunny, windy, and cool all in one afternoon, so layers matter more than you might think. This list covers beach days, mountain walks, and long lunches in the Winelands.

Kristina's notes on Cape Town & Winelands

  1. Cape Town wind is no joke, especially in summer. Pack a light windbreaker for everyone and a hat with a chin strap for the kids.
  2. Table Mountain's cableway closes when it is windy or cloudy, so I plan it for the first clear morning instead of locking in a day.
  3. The ocean here is cold even in summer. Kids still love Boulders Beach and the penguins, but bring rash guards and expect quick dips.
