Lucerne and Geneva packing list for families

A Lucerne and Geneva trip mixes lake towns, scenic trains, and cold mountaintops, sometimes all in one day. Packing smart layers is what keeps the whole family comfortable from the lakeshore to the summit.

Kristina's notes on Lucerne & Geneva

  1. Swiss trains are easy with kids, and the Swiss Family Card lets children under 16 ride free with a parent who holds a valid ticket. I check the current terms before we go, because it saves a lot.
  2. Mountain excursions from Lucerne, like Pilatus and Rigi, can be warm in town and cold at the top. I pack fleeces and a light shell even in July, plus sunglasses for the glare.
  3. Lake Geneva and Lake Lucerne both have summer swimming spots, like the Bains des Pâquis in Geneva. Swimsuits and water shoes earn their space even on a city-and-mountains trip.
