Oman packing list for families

Oman mixes mosque visits, wadi hikes, and desert nights, so families need modest clothes and gear that can get wet. Here is what I pack for a winter trip from Muscat to the dunes.

Kristina's notes on Oman

  1. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque welcomes visitors on a set morning schedule with a strict dress code. Women and girls need long sleeves, long skirts or pants, and a head covering, and there may be rules for young children, so check before you go.
  2. Wadi Shab and Wadi Bani Khalid mean hiking and then swimming through pools. Water shoes and a dry bag let kids enjoy the swim instead of worrying about their stuff.
  3. Desert camps in the Wahiba Sands are warm by day and cool at night in winter. A fleece for each child makes the evening by the fire much cozier.
